Sign in with a PIN on shared devices
Signing in with Google on a shared phone or tablet is slow, and leaves someone else’s account open on it. A PIN is quicker: on your own office or warehouse network, the sign-in screen lists the people who have set a PIN. Each person taps their name and types their 6-digit PIN.
Turn it on for a network
- Register the network first. See register your own networks.
- Go to Admin, then Networks, and switch on Allow PIN Sign-in for that network.
It is off for every network until you switch it on. Anywhere else, the sign-in screen shows no names, and a PIN is refused.
Set your own PIN
- Sign in with Google as usual, then open View profile from the menu under your picture.
- Under PIN for Shared Devices, type 6 digits and choose Set PIN.
Easy ones like 123456 or 111111 are refused. To change or remove it later, come back here after a Google sign-in. A PIN cannot be changed from a PIN sign-in.
On the shared device
- Tap your name, type your PIN and choose Sign In.
- When you are done, open the menu under your picture and choose Switch Person.
- The device signs you out after 30 minutes without a tap, after 12 hours at most, and whenever it leaves the network.
Good to know
- Five wrong PINs lock it for 15 minutes. Google sign-in still works meanwhile.
- A PIN sign-in cannot open the Admin area. Everything else works as it does for that person.
- Changes are marked. Anything changed after a PIN sign-in shows “(PIN)” beside the person’s name in the activity log. See read the activity log.
- Forgotten PIN. Someone with permission to manage roles can choose Clear PIN for that person under Admin, then Users; the person then sets a new one from their profile.
